HMS Queen Elizabeth has taken to the seas

On 27th June 2017 history was made – the HMS Queen Elizabeth Carrier (QEC), the largest warship ever built for the UK Royal Navy, manoeuvred out of the dock at Rosyth (with the assistance of 11 tugs), and embarked on its’ very first sea trails.

Since 2010 Pipex px® have been proud suppliers to one of the UK Ministry of Defences most remarkable projects to date, the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers.

Over 2000 Pipex px® Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) pipe spools have been installed on this incredible vessel, together with our innovative Bulkhead Penetration trims.  We also supplied over 1,314m² of phenolic FRP grating for the Forward and Aft islands and flight deck catwalks, helping to save an approx. 390 tonnes of weight when compared with traditional metallic alternatives.

Watch a short video of the QEC GRE pipe during manufacture here.

A time lapse video and more information about this historic event and project can also be viewed here.
